Dr. Varun Tiwari has successfully defended his PhD

Dr. Tiwari has successfully defended his PhD on “Advancing Climate Resilient Agriculture and Disaster Management in Data-Scarce Bangladesh.”
His dissertation chapters are the following:
- Automated in-season rice crop mapping using Sentinel time-series data and Google Earth Engine: A case study in climate-risk prone Bangladesh
- Advancing food security: Rice yield estimation framework using time-series satellite data & machine learning
- (Under review): Quantified the impact of flooding on boro rice areas in Bangladesh, showing that over 4% of boro rice fields were affected in 2021.
His work has focused on understanding agriculture and flooding in Bangladesh using satellite imagery and machine learning. Dr. Tiwari is passionate about understanding the impacts of flooding on agriculture, which relates to food security and climate resilience.
